Top Gear on DVD, finally!

top-gear-on-dvd-finally

Our beloved Top Gear is being released on DVD for the first time ever in North America. Top Gear 10, a 3-disk set, features a whopping 604 504 minutes of goodness, including all 10 episodes from Season 10 plus the Botswana Special (not available on iTunes).

This is the first time a full season of Top Gear has ever been released on DVD, anywhere.

Yours to relish on a big flatscreen is Season 10 including a hunt for the best road in the world, the return of amphibious vehicles when the boys try to cross the English Channel, Hammond in a Veyron racing a fighter jet, a 24-hour endurance race, other Top Gear classics and the Botswana Special.

Top Gear 10 is available for pre-order here, with a street date of April 21st. Your DVD collection will be duller without it.

DVD Ordered.  Money Spent.  Overtime scheduled for extra funding in anticipation of a “Top Gear Challenges” DVD collection. (Take the hint, Beeb?)

April 21st seems like a long, loong time away now.

It’s about time. Now I can stop having my friends in England send me copies from their collection.

This is indeed the first time a full season has been offered anywhere, including the UK, and these are the full-length, international-edition episodes. Good stuff.

I Love Top Gear, as we all do. I’m so happy to see that the DVDs are coming out, now I just hope the other seasons come out.

Actually I do know that in the UK they do sell TG dvd’s, just not whole seasons. And I’ve suspected that there may be a statutory licence for the BBC over there, but that it only covers broadcasting in the UK - hence, all the rubbish stock music in the BBCA versions. wink I also suspect maybe that’s why His Stigness has switched over to morse code, too.

I think that the reason that previous seasons havent been released is copy right related. In the UK they can use others music without owning the rights themselves as long as they dont reproduce or sell it. I am assuming that the DVDs will have a new, less awesome soundtrack. Hopefully it will still have the effect of the original awesomeness.

Oo, interesting.
I’m a little surprised TG dvd box sets were never released in the UK. Do they not go for that over there?
And this may or may not be worth it, depending on how badly the episodes (especially the music!) are hacked up for the North American market. If the extras are decent too, that’ll be a good sign. I still shudder to think what kind of unwatchable mess the Vietnam special will become when it makes it over here.
