Final thoughts and pick of the range

The new Kuga is safer and roomier than before. Less fun, but a better family car

The new Ford Kuga isn’t as sharp or as fun as the original. But it is bigger, safer and, um, more sensible. The spread of engine and trims means that there’s something for everyone across a wide price range, but be wary as it can get expensive quickly.

The Kuga comes with the familiar solidarity of a Ford, one that can accomplish the everyday stuff with ease and aplomb. With its clever four-wheel-drive system it’ll blanket you in adverse conditions but you’ll have to look elsewhere if you’re in need of something a bit more utilitarian or rugged.

Pick of the range: An AWD, 180bhp 2.0-litre diesel in Titanium trim as it offers the best compromise of performance and efficiency as well as being adequately equipped.
