Classified of the week: Wiesmann GT MF4 Anniversary
Can't afford a £695k Eagle? Get your retro kicks for a fifth of the cost
If you’re in the market for a sports car, you could have all the usual options. But what if a Porsche 911, Jaguar F-Type or even Aston Martin V8 Vantage aren’t up your street? Too mainstream? Too polished?
Feast your eyes on this Wiesmann, then. It’s only from 2013, the year that the Harlem Shake was the height of internet content, but it looks like it’s from ye olde days. Or a faraway planet.
And this particular car is big news. It’s unique, in a very specific way: it’s the only manual, right-hand drive GT MF4 Anniversary coupe that Wiesmann produced. Wiesmann, if you recall, ceased production in 2014.
It might be styled to look like it's from the 1950s, but underneath is a thoroughly modern BMW 4.8 litre V8 producing 367bhp. In a car weighing about the same as a mid-size hatchback, that means a 0-60 time of 4.6secs and a top speed of 180mph.
To give some sort of an idea about how this car handles, Wiesmann claimed its cars “stick to the road like geckos to a wall.” Perhaps why its logo is a gecko. And its factory being shaped like a gecko (seriously). Such a shame production ended, eh?
Putting the geckos aside, there’s a bit of an elephant in the room. Rather, it is the room. That interior is like nothing else we’ve ever seen, with more blue rinse than a bingo hall or a '50s bathroom. You might like it. You might not. We'd like you to tell us either way below.
The asking price for this car is £120,000. If your wallet bulges even more than that, the dealer also has two Wiesmann convertibles on the books, with similarly loud interiors but significantly less privacy. Tempted?
