Woohoo! Geralt of Rivia returns in ‘Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered’

Developer CD Projekt Red has today provided yet another fine opportunity to sink hundreds of hours into a game you’ve already played – and will absolutely play again because ‘Geralt’ – with the announcement of a new, remastered version of Witcher 3.

It is called The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, and unsurprisingly, it is a remastered version of the acclaimed, award-winning game that delivered nearly 200 hours of solid gold playtime directly into thine brains. Think of this new version as a restomod.

As such, the remastered version will get better, upgraded visuals, enhanced combat, “improved traversal and movement”, and new Witcher signs effects. Plus, there’s ‘revamped mount handling’ for poor ol’ Roach, ‘enhanced monster behaviours’ (because the originals were… tame?), a refresh of Geralt’s skill tree, better photo mode, and new finishers.

And speaking of teasers, CD Projekt Red also shared a fresh look at a new Geralt adventure called Songs of the Past (so… a continuation model rather than a resto?), and it looks… really rather exciting. SOTP will take place in a brand-new region called ‘Letten’, and this new land is apparently “rich in rural tradition and folkore”, but “a dark secret lurks just beneath the surface”, forcing Geralt back into the world of monster slaying to overcome “never-before-seen foes”. Yep, sign us up.

This expansion will launch at some point next year for all the major consoles and PC, while the Witcher 3 resto – available as a free upgrade to anyone who’s ever bought Witcher 3 – is coming much, much sooner, on 29 September.
