Video: here's what happens if you chain up a 700bhp buggy like a dog

Watch an overpowered rock bouncer do a burnout for freedom

Published: 25 Nov 2015

On the great car spectrum, rock bouncers are about as far removed from your nan’s Nissan Micra as it’s possible to get.

With monster 700-1000bhp V8s, chin-height wheels and four-wheel-drive, their mission in life is to headbutt their way up scary rock faces.

This works most of the time. When it doesn’t, they simply roly-poly backwards down the scary rock face. That happens a quite a lot.

With their tubular steel exoskeletons, rock buggies look like they took a wrong turn on the way to the set of Alien vs Predator. But with four-wheel-steering and incredibly enthusiastic pilots, they can jiggle and hop their way up terrain that would normally require sticky-soled shoes, harnesses and a handful of carabiners.

They’re noisy, unwieldy things with minds of their own. So what happens when you chain up a rock buggy up like a guard dog? Well, it gets angry. Real angry.

So angry that it chews through a set of chunky tyres and makes an acrid smokescreen in the process. Check it out for yourself above.
