Brad Pitt and Apple’s F1 movie is called… ‘F1’

Must’ve taken them ages to come up with that…

Published: 05 Jul 2024

After more than a year of speculation, Apple Original Films and Formula 1 have announced that the hotly anticipated F1 movie starring Brad Pitt is to be called - drumroll please - ‘F1’. Thought-provoking or what?

Clearly, this is not a title designed to spread via word of mouth. “What's the F1 movie called?” “F1.” “Yeah, what's it called?” “No, it's called F1.” “I know it's called F1! What's the movie called?" "Eff. ONE!.” Repeat many times over.

Set for its theatrical release on 25 June next year, the F1 movie (don’t, just don’t) is being directed by Joseph Kosinski and various other members of the Top Gun: Maverick team.

It’s set to be a groundbreaking piece of cinema with footage captured from real-life grands prix: the crew is once again shooting at the British GP this weekend, having done the same last year.

As well as Pitt, the cast includes Damson Idris, Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Tobiaz Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo. And Lewis Hamilton himself has had input, don’t forget.

Until now we were giddy with excitement, but… this doesn't fill you with confidence, doesn’t it? Not so much the name, but look at the poster: that’s the official F1 logo on there, suggesting there’s a close relationship between the organisation itself and the production.

Let's hope F1 (the sport, not the movie) hasn’t got too much of a say on what goes in the film. Anyone remember the FIFA movie that was… almost entirely funded by FIFA? And ended up focusing on the FIFA executives instead of, er, the beautiful game itself? Exactly.
