Ferrari F50

F40 successor ditched turbo V8 for a 4.7-litre V12 derived from 3.5-litre original that powered Ferrari’s 1990 F1 car to second in the championship. However, solid mounting the engine to the chassis was one teeth juddering motorsport innovation too far for some.

Ooh, another restomod 911. Except this one’s powered by a 1.5-litre turbo V6 as used by Prost and Lauda in McLarens from 1984 to 1985. Boost pressure is reduced by a quarter, but you still get 503bhp at 9,000rpm and a 200mph top speed.
Caparo T1

From the brains of ex-McLaren F1 engineers, in 2007 you could buy this carbon fibre two seat (ish) lightweight with a 3.5-litre IndyCar V8 in the back. Caught fire on Fifth Gear, broke down on Top Gear and only 15 were sold before the company was wound up.

OK, the engine’s mostly from Ford. But it has F1 nous. At 570kg, the Mono is lighter than an F1 car. And you have to take the steering wheel off every time you get in or out. All it’s missing is some wings, sponsors, and a driver complaining “the tyres are dead”.
Fiat Stilo Schumacher GP

If you wanted an official tribute car to Schumacher’s Ferrari F1 dominance in the early 2000s, you didn’t buy a Prancing Horse. No, you bought one of 200 hotted up Fiat hatchbacks with 170bhp, shinier pedals, a boomier exhaust and Schumi’s signature on the dash.
