No fair! Australia is getting a RHD Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
The UK doesn’t get the ZL1 at all, let alone in right-hand drive
Life isn’t fair, is it? It has recently been announced that the Australians will get the hotter version of the Chevrolet Camaro – the ZL1. But not only that. While we have to make do with the standard version in left-hand drive here in the UK, the Aussies will also get the steering wheel on the correct side.
We’re extremely jealous. Holden’s Special Vehicle division will be responsible for re-engineering the icon for Australia and New Zealand – making it the first time the ZL1 will be sold outside of the US.
For some unknown reason, the Down Under ZL1 will make 10bhp less than it does in America, but that still means a stonking 640bhp and 650lb-ft of torque that can be put through either a 6spd manual or 10spd auto ‘box. It’s also got line lock for ultimate burnout fun.
In Blighty we can only get the 6.2-litre V8 in 453bhp spec. Heck, you can even get a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder with only 275bhp. Booo.
The ZL1 is a full-on sports car these days too, thanks to special magnetic dampers, huge Brembo brakes and ultra-sticky tyres. Remember the time it lapped the Nürburgring in 7m 29s? That’s quicker than both the Koenigsegg CCX and CCR, for context.
Give us what we want Chevrolet! We’re not even asking for the even more bonkers ZL1 1LE.
We might sound like petulant children, but petulant children often get what they want in the end, so we’ll keep going until Chevrolet gives in.
