The Top Gear car review:Mazda CX-5
Running costs and reliability
Not much here for now because prices and spec levels haven’t been announced yet. But we’re assured they’ll be within a couple of thousand of the old car, which starts at £23K for a FWD manual, and tops out at £31K for an all-wheel drive diesel auto with all the trimmings. That’s more, not less. The new one will get more equipment as standard, hence the increase. The Ateca starts at less than £20K, but all you’re getting for that is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder. Meanwhile the aging Kuga starts at a little over £21K, and the Tiguan £23K. The CX-5 is not the budget option, that’s for sure, but we think it more than warrants its likely price tag.
