Alfa devises kid-friendly concept car after report says kids are messy
It’s a bit pre-emptive for April Fool’s jokes, but we see your arched eyebrow and appropriately raise our own. After all, not every Alfa Romeo Tonale comes with a baby-changing shelf. After carrying out a survey, Alfa has figured it could do more for parents by way of the Edizione Bambini - because there’s nothing parents like more than having a potential solution dangling in front of them, with no way of buying it.
According to the survey, parents love the style of their car cabins, but hate the mess their beloved offspring creates. Shut the front door, really. A whole 56 per cent of participants feel embarrassed to give someone a lift when the car is messy.
The Alfa Romeo Tonale Edizione Bambini, a name we're not repeating, features seat tidies — including a rattle-free pen holder — to hold games and books, an entertainment screen, and a child seat-facing camera so a passenger can monitor the child on their smart device display instead of turning around.
There’s also a touchless rubbish bin and kids even get a reward chart for cooperating with keeping the cabin tidier.
It’s not a CGI-created concept. Alfa has gone the whole hog and produced the thing, which - to be fair - does feature a really practical shelf that would take a baby’s weight during nappy-changing. Sliding out from under the parcel shelf, such an in-built solution could perhaps give greater support to the 86 per cent of respondents that admitted to changing their baby in the car — and possibly provide a work station for a whole host of other drivers.
Next to the integrated vacuum cleaner — charging from a 12V port — the boot separators to keep the place cleaner and tidier (also available from any good homeware store) are, er, tidy.
