Ram is finally joining the electric pickup party with this 1500 Revolution BEV Concept

It’s still a concept for now, but we’re told a production version will arrive in 2024

Published: 06 Jan 2023

This is the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept, and it’s an early look at a full production EV pickup that will reach the market in 2024. Yep, Ram is finally coming to the party.

We’re told that this 1500 will be ‘segment-redefining’, ‘disruptive’ and ‘leading-edge’ although without a huge amount of detail on the Revolution BEV Concept we’re struggling to see where that redefinition is coming from.

Let’s start with what we know. The concept is built on Stellantis’ STLA Frame EV platform. There’s no word on how big the battery is and no range estimate given, but we do know that it has four-wheel drive thanks to a single motor on each axle. So far, so standard for this rapidly-filling sector.

Ram does promise that the production version will be “the leader in a combination of areas customers care about the most” though, including range, towing, payload and charge time. Sounds promising. Although it does describe the exterior styling as “brutiful – brutal yet beautiful” which immediately puts us right off.

It is a rather sleek looking concept for a large truck though, and we’re liking the suicide doors and lack of a B pillar. Inside there are four standard seats and two extra little jump seats fitted to the panel that separates the cabin from the rear bed, so it’ll house six in total. Almost everything in the cabin is secured by a ‘Ram Track’ attachment system which means you can move bits about or even remove things like the seats and centre console.

In terms of infotainment you’ve got two 14.2-inch screens that sit on top of one another as standard, but these can also be moved and removed to fulfil different functions. Different ‘Cabin Modes’ that further adjust things like the ambient lighting, the seating positions, the content on the screens and the opacity of the roof include Productivity Mode, Social Mode, Party Mode and Relax Mode. We really want to know what happens in Party Mode.

Anyway, what else do we know about the concept? Well, it uses cameras for door mirrors, has a large frunk and can retract its mid-gate section to allow you to carry items up to 18 feet long with the rear tailgate still closed. Impressive. It’s also wearing 24-inch wheels, is full of sustainable materials like apple leather and it can stalk you as you walk ahead of it. No seriously – the ‘Shadow Mode’ allows you to walk in front of the car and have it follow you so you don’t need to get back into the truck. Oh, and we’re also promised Level 3 autonomy with a retractable steering wheel, adjustable air suspension, four-wheel steering and 350kW rapid charging to add 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

Phew. What do we think, Americans?
