Looks like Toyota is building a one-off coupe version of the excellent Century
Arty, orangey imagery surfaces ahead of its reveal at a Japanese motor show
Toyota is readying a one-off coupe version of its rather excellent Century. At least, we think it is. If so, this is extremely intriguing news. And extremely excellent news.
Chiefly because the Century is extremely excellent. A Japanese-only saloon – and limited edition SUV – it’s considered the carmaker’s halo product. This new imagery suggests it's planning a one-off special project.
We’re guessing this because the copy accompanying these really rather orange images says ‘one-of-one’, along with the word ‘new project’ and of course, ‘Century’. It even features the golden phoenix badge adorned on every Century. And a cursory glance at that silhouette suggests that, yep, it’s a coupe.
A big, fat, imposing one, not unlike a Japanese Rolls-Royce Spectre. Though being what looks like a concept, it features the classic concept decoration of special doors: these ones appear to slide forwards, revealing, yep, a seat. And what looks like a wraparound dash.
It looks, frankly, brilliant. And orange. We do not have any more info on this Japanese Spectre, but we’ll report back as soon as Toyota does the decent thing and releases more info.
