The Veloce12 Aperta is a modded V12 Ferrari with an open-top and an open-gate manual
But… has it lost some of the magic in its transition to a summer-friendly supercar?
Touring Superleggera has revealed the latest, summer-friendly iteration of its ode to the Ferrari 550 Maranello, and it is thus: the Superleggera Veloce12 Aperta. Aperta meaning ‘open’, of course.
But has taking a can opener to the sloping, curvaceous roof of the Veloce12 – and the 550 Maranello underneath it – changed the vibe somewhat? And is anyone else seeing an old Corvette in the flanks? Beauty is subjective of course, so no doubt you will have Opinions.
In any case, that roof comprises two removable panels that can be stored “within a bespoke compartment” inside the car, while an aluminium arch frames the rear windscreen, which itself displays the “seamlessly integrated on board storage”. Storage custom-made to fit that space.
Touring Superleggera quotes the Maserati 3500 GT as the inspiration behind the Aperta’s colourway – ‘Alba White’ for the exterior, and dual-tone white and burgundy for the cabin – though it’s all Ferrari underneath.
Which means the same open-gate six-speed manual channeling Maranello’s 5.5-litre V12 and its 500(ish) horsepower to the rear wheels. That’s a bit more than what Ferrari gave it as standard, and allows the Aperta to travel from 0-62mph in 4.4s (the same as the Coupe) and onto a top speed of 180mph.
Should sound fruity, thanks in part to the whole ‘5.5-litre modified Ferrari V12 sitting under the nose’ thing, and also in part to the new Supersprint exhaust said to deliver “a visceral, unfiltered crescendo”.
Elsewhere it’s as per its Coupe sibling: carbon fibre body, fat Brembos all round, TracTive suspension with adaptive dampers, stiffer chassis, much leather, dash of modernity.
“The Veloce12 Aperta offers the duality that bridges the muscular presence of the Veloce12 Coupe and the unrestrained freedom of the Veloce12 Barchetta,” said TS boss Markus Tellenbach.
Naturally it’s only being built in limited numbers, though we don’t know whether this Aperta forms part of the original car’s 30-strong run, or its own. In any case, prices for that Coupe started at €690k plus the donor 550 Maranello, to give you some idea of what this might cost.
Are you… ‘open’ to this iteration?
