Official! Forza Horizon 6 is coming in 2026, and it's set in Japan
Stock up on earplugs, Tokyo citizens, because the noisiest festival on Earth is coming to town
Racing game reveals don’t get much bigger than this - Playground Games has lifted the veil on Forza Horizon 6.
Via an official blog post, the UK-based developer has detailed the latest instalment of the Horizon festival – think Glasto but with V8s instead of people with lots of armpit hair bobbing about to Kneecap while holding £17 falafel pittas.
The most eye-catching detail so far is the setting: we’re off to Japan. This open world racing series has always had a real knack for cramming a vast swathe of national geography into a compact world map, taking us to Colorado, southern France, Australia, the UK and Mexico in previous games.
Japan feels like a perfect setting for the next game, home as it is not just to a fascinating domestic market full of curiosities, but incredible heritage in drifting, touge racing and tuner culture. We can’t wait to snake our way down cherry blossom-flanked highways in an obnoxiously modified RX-7.
There’s an announcement trailer to accompany the news, but don’t get too excited – unless you’re a number plate fetishist there’s not much to get hot under the bonnet about. No gameplay has been shown yet, and we’d expect it to be a few months until that changes.
Playground Games does offer a rough release window, however, along with some platform details: “Forza Horizon 6 will launch first on Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC in 2026. It will be included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass at launch.
"With the excitement for this franchise on other platforms, we also have Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios working together to bring Forza Horizon 6 to PlayStation 5 post-launch.”
