Toyota USA has all but confirmed a GR Corolla hot hatch

Huge news for hot hatch fans (although potentially only those in the US), Toyota USA has been hinting at a properly hot version of the Corolla with some very cryptic Instagram posts.

Get a look at the images above. Both feature a fairly standard (and a little boring) Corolla, but in the background is one clad in the camo used by Gazoo Racing for the Supra, the GR Yaris, the GR 86 and the GR Super Sport Le Mans-bred hypercar in recent years. Toyota really is doing the business, isn’t it?

The captions read “Keep them guessing...” and “Step out from the shadows into the spotlight".

There’s also ‘GR FOUR’ on the red shipping container hinting at the Corolla getting the same rally-bred all-wheel drive system as the fantastic Yaris, and real nerds like us might spot the 2 and 68 on the climate control panel in the interior shot. That’s the power figure of Japan’s slightly more potent GR Yaris, which gets 268bhp from its 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbo engine.

Please Toyota, don’t deny the rest of the world a proper Corolla hot hatch….
