Check out the ridiculous selection of cars at this online auction

Silverstone Auctions has some excellent lots at its May Live sale

  • Is there anything more satisfying than scouring a delightfully diverse auction lot list? It’s one of our favourite internet-based pastimes, and thankfully it’s one hobby that hasn’t been curtailed by Covid-19.

In fact, Silverstone Auctions is taking it one step further, by moving the actual auction online too. Starting this Saturday (23 May), a mega selection of cars will be sold on a live stream session, with bids made online, over the phone or via commission in real-time.

So, what are you waiting for? Click through the gallery here for the best cars going under the (virtual) hammer…

  • 1964 Citroen ID19 Safari

    Estimate: £15,000 - £18,000

Goodness, what a thing. The ID19 was the Citroen DS’s cheaper, younger sibling. Estates for the UK were brilliantly titled ‘Safari’ and built in Slough.

  • 1952 Austin A90 Atlantic Sports Saloon

    Offered without reserve

Want more from the left-field? The art deco A90 Atlantic was styled to appeal to the American market, but Austin only managed to shift 350 to US buyers over 3 years. Oops.

  • 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG

    Estimate: £125,000 - £140,000

Would it really be a proper car auction without a low-mileage supercar? This wonderful SLS has 12,700 miles on the clock.

  • 2015 Land Rover Defender 110 SVX 'Spectre' JB24

    Estimate: £200,000 - £240,000

This could be one seriously expensive Defender. Then again, it was built by Bowler Motorsport for the 24th Bond film, Spectre.

  • 1983 BMW Alpina B9 3.5 (E28) Manual

    Estimate: £25,000 - £30,000

Woof. A right-hand drive B9 with the Getrag five-speed manual gearbox, awesome graphics and a brilliant 135,000 miles on the clock. Is this what perfection looks like?

  • 1987 BMW M3 (E30) ‘Competition Pack’

    Estimate: £48,000 - £56,000

Like the Alpina before, this E30 M3 is offered from Jay Kay’s ridiculous collection of cars. It’s recently been transformed into ‘Competition Spec’ too – looks the business, doesn’t it?

  • 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Speciale

    Estimate: £55,000 - £65,000

The Giulietta SS was designed by Francesco Vittorio Scaglione and featured a drag coefficient of just .28. That’s all you need to know. Just look at it…

  • 1972 BMW 3.0 CSL (E9)

    Estimate: £135,000 - £155,000

Another from Jay Kay. Silverstone Auctions describes this as the best CSL they have ever seen.

  • 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL 'Batmobile' Group 2 Evocation

    Estimate: £95,000 - £115,000

Want to stand out from the crowd on your next track day? This is actually a Batmobile replica built from an E9 CS shell and an Alpina B10 engine.

  • 1991 Range Rover CSK

    Estimate: £50,000 - £55,000

Previously owned by Lord Rothschild, this 20th Anniversary two-door CSK Range Rover has had its original V8 bored out to 5.0-litres and now makes a healthy 300bhp. Lovely.

  • 1960 Facel Vega HK500

    Estimate: £50,000 - £60,000

Poor Vega. This particular car underwent a £100,000 restoration in 1988, before a fire in 2007 declared it an insurance write off. Still runs though.

  • 1973 Ford Escort 1600 Mexico

    Estimate: £32,000 - £37,000

Watch this Escort Mexico go for double its estimate. It is a classic Ford after all…

  • 1990 Chevrolet C1500 454 SS Limited Edition

    Estimate: £12,000 - £16,000

All we need to say here is that the limited-edition Chevy 454 SS has a 7.4-litre V8 producing (wait for it) 230bhp. Nice.

  • 1974 BMW 2002 Turbo

    Estimate: £60,000 - £70,000

And last but certainly not least, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to grace your screen with a picture of the 2002 Turbo.

Can’t afford the asking price? Not to worry – the latest issue of TG magazine is all about celebrating the turbocharger, so click these blue words to grab your copy now.
