Exclusive: Jubilee Edition Peugeots to get penny-sized steering wheels

French carmaker introduces revolutionary new i-Cockpit design

Here's TopGear.com's roving correspondent, Cory Spondent, with his weekly, mostly incorrect exclusives from the world of motoring

Peugeot’s next-generation i-Cockpit will feature a steering wheel the size of a one pence piece, TopGear.com’s sources can reveal.

The exclusive ‘Jubilee Edition’ celebrates 70 years of Her Majesty the Queen and a decade of wilfully small Peugeot wheels. Sources confirm this commemorative penny-sized wheel will allow drivers to steer using only their thumbs in a revolutionary new design which Peugeot claims will ‘reinvent the reinvention of the reinvented wheel’.

“We’ve recently challenged the traditional automotive convention of having a steering wheel sized for enjoyable driving,” a Peugeot insider told TopGear.com. “The next logical step? Make it mind-numbingly tiny.

“We used to build normal interiors that allowed drivers the chance to experience the full gamut of our inherently sporty chassis setups, like lift-off oversteer in a 306 GTI. Now we can engineer that same classic Peugeot handling by making the steering wheel indescribably small.”

The revolutionary new steering wheel placement will be rolled out first on the 208, followed by the 308 and then Peugeot’s range of SUVs. “We were planning on debuting the Jubilee wheel in the 508, but then we remembered nobody buys the 508.

“Anyway, our data suggests the new penny wheel is 98 per cent more useful than the current i-Cockpit,” an insider added.
