Watch out Porsche: BYD’s latest supercar is coming to the UK
Premium subbrand Denza will bring a bewinged two-door supercar to our shores next year
Back in April at the Shanghai Auto Show, BYD’s posh subbrand Denza (not to be confused with its ultra-posh subbrand Yangwang) unveiled a two-door supercar concept with a massive wing.
And now we have exciting news, because BYD’s VP Stella Li has confirmed that a production version is actually coming to the UK!
You see, Denza already has plans to launch on our shores in Spring 2026 with the Porsche Taycan-rivalling Z9 GT, and the sports car (which was actually called the Z at the Shanghai show) will follow shortly after.
“We would like to invite you to Goodwood Festival of Speed next year to experience the Denza Z,” said Li. “The powertrain is confidential for now, but you are invited and you will have a chance to experience this car.”
Reckon Porsche, Aston and McLaren should be running scared? We wouldn’t expect the Z to have the 2,978bhp powertrain of the record-setting Yangwang U9 Xtreme, but the Z9 GT does get a tri-motor setup with 952bhp and 848lb ft of torque. Still fairly nippy, then.
“Our technology is ‘wow’,” says Li. “The Z9 GT has made a big impact in China.
“When other brands launch a new premium car, they just make the engines more powerful. There’s no revolution in that.”
Ouch. Li goes on to point out that the Z9 GT can crab walk, park itself and ‘flash charge’. The latter is BYD’s upcoming 1,000kW charging system that allows its cars to gobble up almost 250 miles of range in just five minutes. We’d imagine the Z supercar will get much of the same ability.
Plans are for it to be on sale over here later in 2026. We reckon Nissan might have something to say about that name, though.
