Interior

What is it like on the inside?

Get ready for more excitement, because your colour choice for the interior is between ‘Light Grey’ and ‘Shadow Grey’. Easy tiger. At least a massive panoramic roof is standard to let in plenty of light.

That said, the feel of the ‘Eco Leather’ heated/ventilated seats is pretty cheap and the plastics used on the dashboard and doorcards are even worse. Same for the fold-up cupholders, which score some points for innovation, but quickly lose them again for looking rather tacky.

We did quite enjoy the ambient lighting around the airvents that flashes/pulses at you if you're about to reverse into something. Though if you had to put up with it everyday…

What's the tech like?

The dash is dominated by the 14.6in central touchscreen that controls pretty much every function on the car. There are far too many menus and submenus, and the small font and smartphone-like toggles make it tricky to use on the move.

Sure, it’s a responsive screen and the graphics are of reasonable quality, but what use is that if you can’t actually control anything while driving? There are some shortcuts and customisable widgets at the bottom of the screen, but even they just take you through to another menu. Thankfully you do have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

Our biggest gripe though is that when you adjust the volume, which you can at least do using a scroller on the wheel, a menu pops up in case you'd like to also adjust the navigation, phone, incoming call ringtone, and intelligent voice levels... which completely obscures whatever's on the screen. The takeaway - don't turn it up to 11 when you've got a crucial exit coming up.

An 8.8in screen sits just behind the steering wheel and displays your driving data, although it also seems to think that every single road is a four-lane highway. Perhaps that’s just the car missing its homeland.

What’s the boot space like?

It’s plentiful. You get 430 litres in the back and up to 1,700 with the rear seats folded. There’s also a 25-litre frunk for storing charging cables and Leapmotor reckons there are 22 different storage spaces in the cabin itself. Some of those are more useful than others.

Passengers shouldn’t have too much to complain about - legroom and headroom in the rear (and up front) is very good, with plenty of room for 6ft adults in the back seats. So that’s something.
