Running costs and reliability
Prices start from just over £23k, which means you get a lot of car for your money. Then there’s the claimed 57.6mpg you’ll get from the smaller diesel engine.
As we’ve mentioned, the one you really want is the dCi 177; prices start at a whisker under £30,000, with fuel economy a claimed 50.5mpg. Under the latest tax rules, your annual bill will be the same, so long as you don’t go too crazy with the options and tip the X-Trail over the £40,000 mark.
Nissans are generally built to survive most things the world can throw at them, though after three years it’s likely to be worth less than half of what you originally paid. Bear that in mind when you choose a spec and option it: that’s why we’d stay clear of top-spec Tekna trim, for example. But we can understand if the allure of all that tech is strong.
