This will change the way you charge your EV

OVO’s Charge Anytime add-on lets you charge your EV at home for less, giving you more flexibility

If you’ve recently bought yourself an EV, you’ll be enjoying the boon of road tax exemption until 2025 and the thrill of never having to buy petrol again. But did you know OVO has an add-on that makes it even easier to charge your car, whatever the time of day?

As a one-stop shop for EV ownership, the energy supplier has a plan to make charging as simple and cost-effective as possible with its Charge Anytime add-on. It’s a straightforward, smarter and greener charging solution for EV owners, with in-built credits that’ll show you how much you’re saving. What’s not to like?

Charge Anytime is available on all OVO tariffs, including the standard variable tariff (SVT), at just 7p/kWh. This add-on separates the power you charge your EV with from the rest of your home’s energy demand, giving you this lower rate at any time of day. That way, economical charging can fit around anyone from night shifters’ to home workers’ schedules, rather than the other way round.

This is achieved by charging your EV when the grid is at its greenest, giving you a lower rate in return. When you download the Charge Anytime app, you can choose the amount you want to charge your EV by, and by what time – let’s say 7am the next morning, ready in time for your commute. OVO then does the rest, finding the cheapest times within that period to charge, so it’s always ready when you need it. And whatever happens, you’ll still get that competitive rate of 7p/kWh.

The app will also provide you with personalised insights into your charging habits and show you how much money you’re saving with the Charge Anytime credits.

Another strength of Charge Anytime is its inclusivity, thanks to two distinct paths of access. The first is by having a compatible smart charger, which can be installed by one of OVO’s engineers. Both the Ohme Home Pro and Indra Smart Pro chargers work with Charge Anytime, with more models to come. The beauty of this solution is it can work with any EV, so if you already own one, this could well be the solution for you.

The good news doesn’t stop when it comes to the second way, as you only need a compatible EV or charger, not both. So, if you already own the right type of charger, you can also access Charge Anytime using direct-to-vehicle (D2V) technology.

EVs use direct current to power their motors, however the national grid provides alternating current. At some point, a conversion has to take place, whether through the charger or the car itself. Around half the EVs on the road can do this on their own, so if you want to check whether yours is one of them, or whether your charger’s compatible, OVO can tell you here.

If you’re looking for home EV charging without any catches, how about a competitive, reduced rate with an easy-to-use app that’ll do all the work for you? It might not even require you to install any new equipment!
