Block party: how Ken Block and Castrol combined on Gymkhana

Five years ago, Castrol and Block joined forces. They’ve achieved a lot

Published: 07 Oct 2015

It could be argued that the strength of any partnership can be measured in terms of what those involved have in common – shared interests, that sort of thing. When it comes to Castrol and the man who’s turned car control into performance art, it’s a match made in heaven.

From the moment Castrol agreed to power Ken Block’s 650bhp Ford Fiesta WRC for his Gymkhana 3 video, it’s been as clear as the tyre marks he leaves behind him that the American would be a unique advocate for Castrol technology.

Why? Because there are few individuals on earth who ask as much of their oil as Ken Block.

His Gymkhana series of videos is among the most viewed online content ever, with over 200 million YouTube views across the seven installments to date.

It’s not difficult to see why. Block’s unique form of brutal automotive ballet plays out every petrolhead’s greatest fantasy, in which this near-mythical figure harnesses ridiculous amounts of horsepower to make eye-widening stunts looks easy while smoke pours from every wheel.

All of which puts a bit more stress on an engine – and demands on the oil – than the average commute. For that reason, Castrol EDGE is Block’s oil of choice, whether he’s using his fire-spitting, exhaust-popping, World Rally-spec Fiesta or one of his own fearsome prototypes, like the Hoonigan.

For Ken Block, it seems Castrol EDGE with TITANIUM FST lubricates the parts other oils just can’t reach. And that really is something he has in common with Castrol.

WIN A TRIP TO THE CASTROL EDGE KEN BLOCK EXPERIENCE

Given the incredible success of his sensational Gymkhana videos, it was only logical that Ken Block would want to create the same breathtaking entertainment for a live audience, too. And so, Gymkhana GRiD was born.

For 2015, the Californian King of Drift is bringing his event to the Santa Pod drag strip in Northampton (24 – 26 October) and Castrol have created the exclusive Castrol EDGE Ken Block Experience. For a chance to win, head to www.topgear.com/feeltheedge.
