The Audi Quattro returns... as a £350k+ RS4-based restomod that can rev to 10,000rpm
A British tuner has dropped a classic body over some very modern underpinnings. Brace for impact
In the latest round of wallet-busting restomods, British tuner Audacious Automotive is offering the opportunity to transform your run-of-the-mill B7 Audi RS4 into a road-going homage to the Sport Quattro Group B rally car.
The recipe is simple. Audacious Automotive takes the original structural, mechanical and electrical architecture of the B7 RS4 (including its lightly powerful 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8) and sculpts a coach-built, Quattro-inspired body around it.
In the process, the IV sheds around 250kg compared with the standard RS4, while an optional carbon-fibre upper body can trim even more weight if you want the full race car experience.
As you'd probably expect, a few changes have been made under the bonnet too. Audacious Automotive has whacked a hefty supercharger onto the V8, meaning even the base model produces 600bhp, does 0-60mph in less than 3.4 seconds, and has a top speed of 200mph.
If that's not mad enough for you, there's also a 750bhp stage-two upgrade, and the option of a re-engineered V8 capable of revving to 10,000rpm. Performance figures for that version haven't yet been revealed, but it's safe to say our ears can't wait to find out what it sounds like.
And just look at it. There's a huge wing, a chunky diffuser and plenty of angles to give the Quattro a futuristic twist. Anyone else getting Back to the Future DeLorean vibes with the exposed steel and aluminium bodywork?
When it comes to price, things are a little less pretty. Just 50 examples will be built, with prices starting at £350,000 before you've even bought the donor RS4. It’s probably safe to assume with some options added you're looking at north of half a million quid, so it might be best to avoid attempting a Scandinavian flick into every corner...
