Why Bahrain has the full package for Formula 1 fans
Head to this Middle Eastern island nation for cars, culture, and so much more
When the Grand Prix launched in Bahrain in 2004, it was the first time the FIA Formula One World Championship had been held in the Middle East. The rest is history – and today the race is a must-see event, drawing crowds of thousands each year. But it’s fair to say there’s a lot more than just fast cars to be experienced here.

The Bahrain Grand Prix is a night race, so you’ll be taking in the heart-stopping action and electric atmosphere under the skies of the Sakhir desert. The circuit has been intricately designed with 15 corners to make for a dramatic competition, and is encircled by 50,000 grandstand seats offering incredible views of the cars. Race weekend is a celebrated event in Bahrain’s calendar, and you can expect two days of unmissable entertainment, world-class sport and indulgence with your mates.

The fun doesn’t stop at the finish line. Bahrain boasts a unique history and culture that you won’t find in other parts of the Middle East, and there’s plenty to see and do away from the circuit in Sakhir. Bahrain was once the centre of the world’s pearl trade and is thought to be where diving for pearls began around 4,000 years ago. Use your trip to dive or snorkel in the sea of the Arabian Gulf and see what’s down there for yourself.
Manama, the modern capital of Bahrain, is where you’ll want to spend most of your time. In the bohemian neighbourhood of Adliya lies Block 338, the country’s hottest dining district, packed with restaurants, cafes, art galleries, and live music. The city is also home to Bahrain’s national museum and theatre, as well as the Bab el-Bahrain Souk. Meanwhile, archaeological interest site Bahrain Fort is just a 10-minute drive out of town.
