The Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce has arrived
Semi-skimmed QV gets a 2.0 turbo and 280bhp
Good news, people of the United Kingdom. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce has arrived, and you can order one now for no less than 37,935 of your finest Great British Pounds.
Remember, the Veloce is the middle-ground between the regular Giulia and the QV. When it was revealed at last year's Paris show, Alfa said it would have all-wheel drive and be available with either petrol or diesel power. Well, it looks like UK cars will just be getting the 2.0-litre, turbocharged four-cylinder petrol with 280bhp and 296lb ft, rear-wheel drive and the very same eight-speed ZF auto as pretty much every other Giulia – regular or otherwise. 0-62mph takes a respectable 5.7seconds, and the top speed is 149mph.
Meanwhile “enhanced sports exterior styling” gives gloss black detailing, special bumpers, dual exhausts, 18in alloys, sports seats and aluminium gearshift paddles. The Veloce also gets bigger brakes, plus all the infotainment, active safety and climate control you could ever need.
Competitors? The four-cylinder BMW 330i is cheaper and less powerful – just 252bhp, but you can have a manual and from just over £34K. Audi do a 252bhp 2.0-litre A4 too. Lines-up price-wise but is Quattro-only. Which one would you have?
