BRISTON CLUBMASTER £355
This French brand was founded by an industry veteran with an eye for classic British style, who set out to make sophisticated “sporty chic” watches at reasonable prices. This model has a 40mm stainless steel case, water resistant to 50m.

HAMILTON PSR DIGITAL QUARTZ £675
A modern take on an old classic – the Hamilton Pulsar Time Computer was a groundbreaking Seventies digital watch that told the time when you pressed a button. No need to press a button on this one, except at night to make it brighter. Water resistant to 100m.
TISSOT PRX POWERMATIC 80 £535
Not as well known in the UK as mainland Europe, but if you are looking for a Swiss brand with proper heritage that doesn’t break the bank, Tissot is a great bet. Water resistant to 100m, 40mm case and automatic movement with 80-hour power reserve.
SPINNAKER SPENCE 300 AUTO £500
There’s a lot to like about what’s on offer from relatively obscure UK-based newcomer Spinnaker. This diver boasts water resistance to 300m, which puts it in Rolex Submariner territory. Despite this capability, the 40mm steel case is a none too portly 11mm thick.
