BMW tuner AC Schnitzer has been saved!
And just in time, too – it turns 40 next year
Sad news. In March 2026, BMW tuner AC Schnitzer announced it would stop tuning BMWs by the end of the year, which was a rather sad end to one of the car world’s aftermarket stalwarts.
But it’s followed by Good News! Because today, in October 2026, BMW tuner AC Schnitzer has announced it will continue tuning BMWs long into the future – and crucially, well into its 40th anniversary year, which is 2027.
Phew. You may not have bought an AC Schnitzer-tuned BMW, nor been tempted by one, but it’s been a fairly massive player in that particular game for a while now. Since 1987, in fact, and has done a lot of rather cool stuff, not least Michael Jordan’s BMW 850i (above).
It’s been bought by the AM Group, which is apparently a “Rotterdam-based house of premium vehicle personalisation, performance engineering and high-end automotive parts”.
This takeover by AM… G (?) will also apparently open up “a new era of investment in design, product development and international growth”. So even if you’ve not bought an AC Schnitzer-tuned BMW nor been tempted by one, you’ll likely be hearing about them a little bit more.
The deal will also see AC S “keep its own identity and engineering-first philosophy”, just with a bit more finance behind it.
“AM Group provides the resources the company needs in a rapidly changing market environment to drive growth, increase dynamism and strengthen its appeal to new customer segments,” said AC S MD Rainer Vogel. Indeed one of the reasons it gave for originally shutting up shop was that it had failed to attract younger buyers.
Reckon that’ll change now it’s got its future secured?
