JLR has reportedly fired design boss Gerry McGovern, the man behind the Type 00
Jaguar Land Rover stalwart has apparently been shown the door
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has fired its design boss Gerry McGovern, according to online reports. The long-serving JLR designer was reportedly told to leave the business with immediate effect.
JLR hasn’t yet offered any official comment on the alleged dismissal.
It brings to an end a 21-year career at Land Rover and Jaguar, during which time he introduced the Range Rover Evoque, helped shape the reinvention of the Range Rover, Discovery, Defender, and of course, nearly broke the internet with the radical Jaguar Type 00 Concept (pictured above).
Before his role as ‘chief creative officer’ at JLR, McGovern worked at Ford, Austin – where he worked on the MG EX-E concept and MG F – and Chrysler. He was awarded an OBE in the 2020 New Years Honours for services to automotive design.
