Video: this tuned Mazda sounds like an old F1 car

The Lexus LFA, Porsche Carrera GT, and Aston Martin GT12 all have a mighty set of lungs, but this ickle Mazda RX-3 gives them a run for their money. Which is something we never thought we’d say.

It’s the work of RP Customs in Australia, with a little bit of help from engine builders Curran Brothers Racing.

The tag team stripped out the standard Seventies engine and swapped it for – deep breath – an epic peripheral ported, naturally aspirated, fuel injection, dry-sumped 26B quad-rotor.

We’re not sure on power figures, but guess that it’s somewhere in the region of ‘a lot’.

As you can see above, the little two-door coupe wiggles into oversteer quite easily, and appears to be overcome with so much torque that it can twist the chassis into the shape of a Flump.

Oh, and it sounds like an F1 car. Not any F1 car, but one from the late eighties/early nineties. Y’know, the days when Formula One had stonking V10 and V12 engines and sounded good. Seriously good.

Now, raise your hand if you think they should bolt a blower on top...
