Mercedes is working on an ultra-posh Maybach version of the SL
The new SL may have been an all-AMG project, but it’s about to get the proper luxury treatment
Mercedes has revealed that a super posh Maybach version of the SL roadster is in the works, with the shady image you see above revealed by design chief Gorden Wagener on Instagram.
“A glimpse of the Concept Mercedes-Maybach SL – revealing more about future opportunities of our company’s most exclusive brand,” said Wagener in his post. Looks like we’ll get a heavily logo-ified concept car first then, before a proper Bentley Continental GTC or Aston Martin DB11 Volante rival finally arrives.
It’s an interesting direction change for the new SL, particularly given that when it was unveiled Merc made lots of noise about it returning to its sports car roots with the development carried out entirely by AMG. Heaps of extra leather and wood might not help the SL’s performance credentials.
