Rinspeed 'Oasis' heading to CES
Concept from mad Swiss firm has a garden for growing radishes. Seriously
Rinspeed will once again exhibit at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which is held every January. At this year’s show it brought with it a bright-yellow, autonomous sports car based on the BMW i8, but next year’s exhibit is set to be a little more…bespoke. It’s called the Oasis – yes, like the drink – and it’s an autonomous, fully-electric car for the “urban sphere”.
The work of one of our all-time favourite madmen, Rinspeed’s founder Frank M. Rinderknecht (“I like to be crazy. There are plenty of normal people”), the Oasis is effectively a two-seat urban runabout. More details are bound to be released closer to its January debut, but for now we know it has an interior with the “ambience of a modern-day family room”, and that the exterior looks like “a trendy buddy of Star Wars icon R2D2”. These are Rinspeed’s words.
The windscreen serves as a display for VR and AR applications, and there’s a patch of grass just beneath it that Rinspeed suggests could be used for growing “flowers and radishes”. There’s also a heated/cooled, secure drawer out back, making this the perfect pizza delivery vehicle…
