Here’s your first real look at the new Polestar 3
Polestar’s first ever SUV will feature a dual-motor drivetrain and over 373 miles of range
This is the new Polestar 3, and it’s a big one. Literally, big. It’s Polestar’s first ever SUV, gets a big battery, a big range and – presumably – big performance.
That’s because Polestar tells us it’ll feature a dual-motor drivetrain and is enthusiastically described as an “electric performance SUV”.
No word on said performance at this early stage – all the specifics will be divulged in October later this year – but Polestar does say the projected range is over 600km on the WLTP cycle. So just over 373 miles.
Later in the 3’s life, we’re told it’ll get “autonomous highway piloting powered by the best-in-class LiDAR sensor from Luminar” thanks to an NVIDIA processor. Production will kick off early in 2023, and it’ll be built in the US and China.
“Polestar 3 is the SUV for the electric age,” explains Polestar boss Thomas Ingenlath. “Our design identity evolves with this high-end large luxury EV, with a strong, individual brand character.
“With this car, we bring the ‘sport’ back to the SUV, staying true to our performance roots.”
So it’ll be big and pointy, then. Set your calendars…
