This is the new Skoda Enyaq: more power, more range, and more… face

Skoda’s really rather good EV gets an early facelift and better aero

Published: 08 Jan 2025

Time of course, waits for no one, especially not exceedingly sensible electric SUVs. Believe it or not, it’s been four years since the Skoda Enyaq parked itself – neatly, thoughtfully, between the lines – into the electric car world. Which means it’s time for The Facelift.

So, be still thine beating hearts and behold: the New Skoda Enyaq. Clearly graduating from the ‘Hyundai Tucson’ school of design, the new Enyaq deploys Skoda’s ‘Tech-Deck’ front. Sounds like a Transformers baddie, is the company’s bold new identity able to conceal a myriad of sensors and tech for much assistance. More on that later.

There’s a grand total of 36 light segments forming the upper part of the Enyaq’s face, including two LED lights in the lower half to make a “horizontal interpretation of the four-eyed night-time face that has become a hallmark of Skoda SUVs”. You knew that, right?

The rear stays broadly the same, with LED tech and animated indicators in the toppier versions, while you get a choice new shiny new wheels to choose from, in sizes ranging from massive (19in) to really massive (21in).

Though that face be bold, and those wheels massive, it slips through the air more easily thanks to an “optimised transition to the bonnet” from the face, tweaked air curtains, a smaller gap between the radiator and front bumper and the wheel design. As such, Skoda quotes a drag coefficient of 0.245 vs 0.264 for the outgoing car. The Enyaq Coupe’s number is even lower: 0.229 vs 0.240. Very important for range, y’see.

Overall it’s a handsome update for what will likely remain a Good Car; it sits on the same MEB platform as before with a battery and a single electric motor on the rear axle, but Skoda has tweaked the offering so there’s now an Enyaq 60 (63kWh battery), an Enyaq 85 (82kWh) and Enyaq 85x (also 82kWh, but with dual motors, hence the ‘x’). All are more powerful than before.

The base 60 car gets a 201bhp/228lb ft setup, is able to go from 0-62mph in 8.1s and max out at 99mph. This car gets a claimed range of 268 miles. The RWD 85 gets a much healthier 282bhp/402lb ft drivetrain and is able to go from 0-62mph in 6.7s. This car claims 359 miles of range (365 for the Coupe).

Interestingly, the AWD 85x is no faster to 62mph, is capped at the same 111mph top speed and offers less range than the RWD 85 (332 miles for the SUV, 334 for the Coupe). Fast charging from 10-80 per cent takes between 24 to 28 mins across all three cars.

It's broadly the same car inside – barring a new steering wheel – which means you get all the goodies the Mk1 came with. Actual buttons, digital cockpit, a 13in central touchscreen and sustainable material use. You also get Skoda’s array of ‘Simply Clever’ stuff, like the classic umbrella in the door, phone pockets on the back seats, an ice scraper/tyre tread gauge and – new for 2025 – a QR code in the boot. Us neither.

There are however, a couple of new assistance functions installed into the 2025 Enyaq: remote park assist which does exactly what you think it does (automatically park while the no-doubt anxiety-laden owner looks on), and ‘trained parking’. This is where the car ‘learns’ approaches of up to 50 metres to five specific parking locations, and once logged, can drive there automatically using the app.

The UX has been given a tidy up, there’s a tonne of driver assistance, and the option of SE L, Edition and Sportline trims (Sportline is the car pictured in the main gallery). No doubt there’ll be an update to the vRS coming along shortly, because of course, time waits for no one, especially not exceedingly sensible and mediumly sporty electric SUVs.
