Surprise! It’s the Lexus Sport Concept, a two-door supercar
Lexus drops the first images of a “truly authentic” performance machine
Only two paragraphs accompany Lexus’s latest announcement. One mentions the where – The Quail, in California – while the other signals the what.
And hoo boy, the what is rather delightful. Officially called the Lexus Sport Concept, it’s a two-door, “truly authentic” performance machine from the people who brought you the LFA.
Like that car, this one aims to be the pointiest tip of Lexus’s arrow, because not only does it “signal the way forward for Lexus design”, it also showcases a low, wide and “dynamic” two-door that forms the “vision for a next generation sportscar”.
Is it an evolution of the Electrified Sports Concept we saw a few years ago? Lexus hasn’t said, but it certainly feels like it. That ESC was an electric performance car of course, with a promised dual-motor setup, predicted range of 435 miles and somewhere in the vicinity of 1,000bhp. 0-62mph? Two seconds.
Plus, Lexus told TG a long time ago how this ESC might even feature a ‘manual’ gearbox for ‘better engagement’ and to provide another link between the driver and the car. “It’s not just about efficiency,” Lexus boss Koji Sato told us, “I love cars and want something different”.
Just build it already, Lexus. And give it an augmented V10 soundtrack, pretty please.
