Mopar has electrified a 1967 Plymouth GTX, and it’s a beauty
The ‘Electromod Concept’ comes with modern brakes and tyres too, so don’t sweat it
Mopar has electrified and style-ified an old 1967 Plymouth GTX, and long story short, it's quite something. The creation - dubbed the ‘Electromod Concept’ - seems like the ideal solution if the day should come when your traditionalist uncle wants to get a piece of modernity.
That conversion kit is a 400-volt, 250kW electric drive module which bolts to the car’s frame via a set of custom mounts. On top of that sits an integrated dual-charging module that’s veiled by a Dodge Hellcat-esque supercharger cover. Nice touch to win over Unc, there.
The stats are impressive too: 340bhp/335lb ft sent to the rear wheels and 250 miles of range from a 73kW battery. Other notable performance-y bits include Wilwood brakes and Pirelli P-Zero tyres.
Let’s not mess about here, the Frostbite Blue exterior looks proper too. The low stance and flared arches are set off by a raft of carbon parts, like the bonnet, front splitter and rear spoiler, while revised air vents and 18in magnesium forged alloys are included. The satin black stripes are also a subtle nod back to the original.
It’s a similar story inside, where a custom driver interface sits and consists of a refreshed speedo, state of charge readout, e-motor information and battery temperature. And, wait, is that a manual window winder? It sure is, and the flat-bottom, three-spoke steering wheel will also be a nudge of nostalgia for vintage muscle car fans.
The Electromod Concept is a one-off demonstration of what we could expect in the future from Mopar since most of its beneficiary products, like the Dodge Charger, are going electric. Reckon this is something you can get behind?
