This is the rather stunning new Cadillac Opulent Velocity Concept

The all-electric 2+2 coupe gets butterfly doors and a 3D-printed interior

Published: 19 Aug 2024

Another week, another Cadillac concept. This one’s called the ‘Opulent Velocity’, which means it’s probably a touch on the luxurious side, right? Correct, because it’s an all-electric 2+2 coupe with butterfly doors, robotised design exterior cues and a pretty radical cabin.

Let’s start with that exterior: the ‘Gilded Pearl’ coat is worn by a typically long, squat silhouette riding on vampire teeth-spoked wheels. The faded paint behind the side windows is also a neat touch and looks to be partly inspired by a desert storm.

No details as yet on the drivetrain or specific outputs, but Caddy does say the Velocity would have Level 4 autonomous driving should it ever make production. In layman’s terms, that means it’s a mostly hands-free experience.

We say mostly because some use of hands is required to toggle the various ‘multisensory’ driving modes using the full-length screen and Augmented Reality Head-Up Display. One of those modes, ‘Velocity’, even brings up a ghost car on the infotainment screen to help you improve your lap times when you hit the track. Good function, that.

The rest of the interior isn’t half-bad either. Finished in a shade of ‘Selene’ (er, dark blue), the sci-fi elements start with the multi-functional yoke steering wheel, while the dandy front seats are slotted directly to the door to keep you a bit more secure on said track days.

The rear-seat passengers are also treated to the sort of sofa you’d find at an overpriced Martini bar, while silver pearl flakes made of flax fibres are just some of the elements that have been 3D printed for this car.

Reckon Cadillac will stop messing around and actually put one of these V-Series cars into production within the next 400 years?
