The Tiggo 9 is a seven-seat plug-in hybrid offering 91 miles of EV range

Chery’s flagship model promises space for all the family and a whopping electric range

Published: 23 Oct 2025

Good news, families of the world: Chinese carmaker Chery has confirmed that its flagship seven-seat Tiggo 9 plug-in hybrid is destined for our shores, promising all the grace, space and pace… wait, no, that’s not it. But it does promise plenty of space, a deftness of pace and a whopping electric range. Doesn’t quite roll off the tongue as well, but you get the gist.

Moving on. Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, dual electric motors and a gearbox integrated starter-generator, for a total output of 422bhp and 428lb ft of torque and a 0-62mph time of 5.4 seconds, all mated to a 34.46kWh battery.

The more pertinent figure, however, is the 91 miles of electric only range – just short of the 93-mile EV range of its Omoda 9 sibling – but making it comfortably one of the longest electric range plug-in hybrids on sale today.

It also supports DC charging speeds of up to 71kW, meaning a 30-80 per cent top up takes around 18 minutes. Though if you have any sense you’ll stick to considerably cheaper home charging, which’ll take… considerably longer. (We’re not told. Soz).

Just one trim will be available, called Summit. It includes (deep breath) 20in alloy wheels, a 10.25in digital instrument display, a 15.6in 2.5K touchscreen, head-up display, a 50W cooled wireless phone charger, a 14-speaker Sony sound system, heated and ventilated seats front and rear, dual zone climate control, ambient lighting, and a powered tailgate.

Oh, and as we mentioned, seven seats, complete with electronically sliding and reclining second row, plus a 1.3-metre panoramic sunroof. Fold the third row and there’s 819 litres of bootspace, or if you lose the second row there’s 2,021 litres to play with.
