Video: is this our first listen to Bugatti’s Veyron successor?
Official teaser video from Bugatti says many things, and then some noise happens…
This video doesn’t reveal anything of proper significance. In fact, it doesn’t tell us anything new at all about the Bugatti Veyron’s successor.
Until the last few seconds, that is. After a lengthy, fluffy, talky preamble about horizons and reality and instinct and chasing the dawn, we are treated to a few moments of an engine revving.
Yep, Bugatti has officially released a new teaser video for – we think – its upcoming new model. The video is entitled ‘#imaginEBugatti’: E and B are, of course, the initials of company founder Ettore Bugatti, but does that also hint – as previously mooted – at some sort of electric assistance for the new Bug’s engine?
There’s certainly a hint of hybrid-ised whoosh in that engine note, no? And sadly, that’s all we’ve got for now – lots of speculation.
We do know that the new Bugatti should arrive by early 2016 – and maybe even a first look late this year – according to the head of VW Group’s design Walter de Silva.
Speaking to TopGear.com last year, de Silva stated that the new Bug’ won’t be a direct replacement for the Veyron, but rather a fresh approach to going very, very fast. “When you buy a Bugatti,” he told us, “you buy a piece of art.”
De Silva also noted the company is putting “a lot of attention in the technology for the new Bugatti,” and that a few concepts were being mulled at the time. So there’s no word on if the Veyron’s successor will retain that epic W16 drivetrain, or employ something perhaps even more complicated. It will sound nice, though, if the vid is anything to go by.
We also know that the new Bugatti won’t be a version of the four-door Galibier, nor a ‘SuperVeyron’, either, according to Dr Wolfgang Schreiber.
“We have talked many, many times about the Galibier,” Dr Schreiber told TopGear.com early last year, "but this car will not come because it would confuse our customers.”
So, there are lots of things we don’t know. But you can guarantee that whatever the hell it is, it will be epic. Roll on 2016.
