
You’re gawping at the first ever 4WD, 600bhp Kimera EVO38
Successor to the glorious, 10/10 EVO37 is ready for California
The Kimera Automobili EVO37 is a 10/10 car. “One of the most exciting, most complete restomods we’ve ever driven,” was the TG verdict. The bite-the-back-of-yer-hand-gorgeous classic you’re gawping at above is the successor, appropriately named the EVO38.
And it’s been revealed here in its full production spec, in fully brilliant deep blue and tan livery, ahead of a Californian debut at this weekend’s Pebble Beach concours. The headlines – apart from the fact it looks fully brilliant – are thus: lots of power, lots of drive, a bit of hybrid, and as rare as unobtanium.
So, the EVO37’s supercharged and turbocharged 2.2-litre four-cylinder returns with more power – up from 550bhp to 600bhp – in part thanks to a new 48V hybrid system said to add “power and elasticity to its thrust”. That’s now channelled to all four wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox and delivered to thine ears via a new valved exhaust system.
Kimera said it has redesigned the chassis by adding pushrod suspension and a new strut tower cross brace with an integrated turbo cooling system, said to better exploit “the overpressure from the wastegate valve”.
Party pieces? There are a few. Inside the glorious, bespoke cabin sits a gearbox tower made from billet-milled aluminium, sitting alongside a hydraulic handbrake, and above a completely exposed central driveshaft that runs through the cabin encased within a glass tunnel. All the better to see the EVO38’s 600 horses being delivered with utmost haste.
There’s a selectable torque splitter on hand to better apportion the car’s power to the front and rear axles, while the engine mapping, power delivery, suspension, traction control and ABS are of course, all adjustable. And there’s carbon fibre and aluminium everywhere.
Despite being 4WD and saddled with hybridisation, it’s actually lighter than the EVO37. And the EVO37 only weighs in at 1,000kg.
“In an automotive world where the leading brands committed to building supercars and hypercars compete to outdo each other with technical data, horsepower, combustion and electric engines, top speed records, or Nürburgring lap times, Kimera wants to assert something decidedly different: passion and emotion,” the company said.
Though, it’s only asserting it in limited numbers, and in news that won’t surprise you, nearly all 38 versions of this EVO38 have been accounted for.
