Hamilton to sit out Sakhir GP after positive Covid-19 test
Seven-time Formula 1 champ in self-isolation, will miss the next race
Lewis Hamilton won’t be racing at this weekend’s Sakhir Grand Prix after testing positive for Covid-19.
Mercedes-AMG F1 reported the seven-time Formula 1 world champion was tested “three times last week and returned a negative result each time”. The last of those three tests was on Sunday afternoon at the Bahrain International Circuit, as per F1’s testing programme.
However, Hamilton reported mild symptoms on Monday morning, and Merc said he was “informed at the same time that a contact prior to arrival in Bahrain had subsequently tested positive”. He took another test which returned a positive result.
We’re told the record-breaking champ is recovering in Bahrain and is otherwise “fit and well”. Merc plans on announcing who’ll take up Hamilton’s seat this weekend in due course.
While this is the first time this season you'll get decent odds on Lewis not winning a race, who would you like to see keeping his seat warm?
