Say annyeonghaseyo to Kia’s teeny Rio-based four-wheel drive concept inspired by cheap road car-based racers.

It’s only 3.88m long, 1.77m wide, and 1.35m tall, with just two seats inside. Under the tiny shelf of bonnet, there’s a 201bhp 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine bolted to a seven-speed DSG ‘box. Supplementing power is the obligatory electric motor - 44bhp in this case - which drives the rear axle.

Gregory Guillaume, Chief Designer at Kia’s European styling base in Frankfurt, says “[It’s] an emotional and muscular car aimed at delivering pure fun and performance for today’s city-based enthusiast driver. The potent shaping displays a balanced and refined outline within a compact overall shape and the tiny front and rear overhangs enhance the balance within its proportions.”

As you’d imagine, there’s a distinctly futureland feel to the non-oily bits. Outside, you get a pair of frameless doors, a wrap-around windscreen, and 19-inch wheels. Its innards have a distinctly hot-rod flavour - the black seats are diamond-stitched, there’s no centre console and in the carbon dashboard there’s aluminium toggle switches.

You also get an aluminium mounting for the transmission selector and starter button, and the driver has column-mounted paddle shifters (that meant Kia could do away with a transmission tunnel).

Sadly, Kia tells us that there’s no specific production schedule for the Provo on the calendar. Does this anger you, TopGear.commers?
