Goldammer Goldmember news - Golden show-er - 2008

Published: 11 Aug 2008

Top Gear isn't usually a fan of custom bikes. We find hairy men in vest tops a bit intimidating.

So when we heard about the Goldammer Goldmember, we didn't quite know which way to look. Turns out this is a custom bike with a twist, though. No monkey-on-a-chopper riding position, no airbrushing, no mile-long suspension forks.

Nope, this thing's built for speed. Big, Bonneville Salt Flat sort of speed. 160mph speed.

It's got a 960cc, single-cylinder engine with a supercharger AND nitrous thrown in, all of which helped it hit that 160mph average at Bonneville last year.

The Goldmember is built by a bloke called Roger Goldammer, and won the prestigious 'Freestyle' class at this year's originally-named Official World Championship of Custom Bike Building, beating off opposition with names like 'Kill Yourself', 'Hammered' and 'Wild Night'.

So well done Roger. You're the man. Probably a big, furry, grizzly biker sort of man.
