Hurrah! Bentley hasn’t given up on the Flying Spur: new 771bhp hybrid incoming

Bentley will plug the Conti GT’s new V8 hybrid system into its four-door saloon. Good news

Published: 18 Jul 2024

A little bit of good news to brighten your day – Bentley hasn’t given up on its last four-door saloon just yet. It has announced a facelifted Flying Spur is on the way, and it’ll use the same hybrid powertrain as the refreshed Continental GT.

That powertrain pairs a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor to produce 771bhp and 738lb ft of torque, while a 25.9kWh battery should allow for “more than 45 miles” of all electric range and a CO2 figure of below 40g/km.

Bentley calls its new setup the ‘Ultra Performance Hybrid’ powertrain, but if you’re thinking those numbers seem very familiar then you’ve probably just read all about the new 202mph Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. Sharing is caring, and all that.

Still, it’s good news that Bentley is sticking with the Flying Spur despite almost everyone seemingly wanting a Bentayga these days. The refreshed four-door saloon will apparently be “potent and tranquil in equal measure” and that “a significant amount of development has also been invested in the exhaust note”.

These are also both good things, and given that it has 145bhp more than the old W12-engined Flying Spur Speed, we’d describe it as very potent indeed. More when we have it.
