Photo of the day: the full Le Mans 2016 grid
All 60 cars competing in the 24-hour race line-up for testing
The 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans is now less than a fortnight away, and it will be contested by the 60 cars that you can see pictured above. Up from 56 entries last year, the race promises to be an incredibly tight affair.
Don’t believe us? Then check out the best times set in yesterday’s mandatory shakedown at Circuit de la Sarthe. Audi clocked the fastest time of the day, with Lucas Di Grassi setting a best time of 3 minutes 21.375 seconds in the #8 R18.
However Porsche and Toyota weren’t far behind, and their comparative pace will ensure the latter team are there to challenge for the overall win if the German outfits run into trouble during the race.
Meanwhile in the GTE Pro category, the battle for supremacy looks to be even closer. The best times of the entire field landed within two seconds of one another, and even the smallest advantages could be nullified for the race itself when balance of performance restrictions are applied.
