This Acura NSX has a matching trailer and it's brilliant

American Honda engineers chop up an NSX test mule to create a superb Type S and trailer combo

Published: 09 May 2023

Remember the chap who chopped up a written-off first-gen Honda NSX so that he could take his dog on holiday in his favourite Japanese supercar? Well, he’s clearly inspired a group of engineers at Honda’s North American Auto Development Center (ADC) in Ohio, because what you see above is a second-gen NSX complete with a brilliant matching trailer.

This is no ordinary NSX either, it’s a last-of-the-line Type S (with an American Acura badge obviously) which means 600bhp from its 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 hybrid powertrain. Oh, and the trailer has been fitted with H&R springs as well as matching HRE wheels and Falken tyres. There’s even a reversing camera built into it that connects to the NSX’s infotainment screen. Proper job. And don’t worry, because the car that gave its life to become the trailer was a test mule that was destined for the scrapheap.

The setup has been created so that engineers from the Honda of America Racing Team (HART) can compete in the snappily titled ‘2023 Tire Rack One Lap of America presented by Grassroots Motorsports Magazine’. They really do like sponsored events over there, don’t they?

The Lap of America is a seven-day event that covers 3,200 miles and includes visits to a number of circuits for time trials, drag races and skid pan sessions. The trailer will be used to haul spare tyres, tools and fluids, although we assume they’ll detach it before any skid pan drift action…
