Photo of the day: BMW’s new i8 paint-job range

Yellow! Green! Purple! Colours of the rainbow unleashed on hybrid sportscar

If you like colours and hybrid sportscars made in Germany, then today is your lucky day: following the success of BMW’s red paint-job for the i8 back in February, the carmaker has decided to boost its palette.

UK buyers now have the choice of several new colours, which BMW has named as follows: Java Green, Speed Yellow, Solar Orange, Twilight Purple Pearl, Frozen Grey, Frozen Black, San Marino Blue and Grigio Telesto Pearl.

There’s also a selection of different finishes available so customers can further personalise their wheels.

“The BMW i8 embodies the accomplished vision of a modern and sustainable sports car,” said BMW’s Richard Hudson. “The new paintwork colours not only complement the BMW i8’s emotive styling and design, they also work harmoniously with the BMW i brand and provide customers with exclusive personalised options.”

You can’t put a price on individuality, although in this instance BMW has estimated it at £5,495, which is the minimum it will cost you for coating the i8’s angular bodywork in non-standard gloss.

1,400 models have been sold in the UK since its launch in 2014: if Britain keeps that hit rate up then perhaps the rest of the world won’t have to make do with superhero mods for too much longer…
