The Buick Grand National is now even cooler*

It’s hardly a secret that Eighties cars are now proper classics. But has a classic car every truly arrived before someone’s done something about the woeful lack – or indeed woeful presence – of air conditioning?

If you, like we, are from the same time period as these cars, you might say absolutely not. We would, after all. In fact, we’re fairly sure that new air conditioning in an old classic was our primary first-hand experience with restomodding. On the other hand, you might be inclined to call us soft for not just dealing with driving what’s essentially a motorised bain-marie. But we digress.

Growing up when air-con was still an optional extra – and often a pointless one when opted for – getting an aftermarket system was the absolute connoisseur’s choice... and what we should have probably done instead of lower springs and louder exhausts. But every time we gawked at a proper classic or hotrod at a car show – that, crucially, was owned by someone cleverer than ourselves – we’d always see the same name on the spec sheet: Vintage Air.

So how does this all fit together? Well, the headline likely gives it away, but Vintage Air has extended its Surefit air-con system to Buick’s turbo V6 legend. So now that Eighties cars are officially vintage, you can now get proper vintage cool, just with proper cooling. Yeah, we’ll see ourselves out.
