Manhart’s newest restomod is this Alpina 2002 Tii

German tuner follows up Delta Integrale and E30 M3 with a 197bhp Alpina

Published: 15 Sep 2023

Are you keen to buy a classic BMW but worried that people won’t know you’ve spent big on an Alpina? Well, there’s not much chance of that happening with Manhart’s new Alpina 2002 Tii restomod.

We like an Alpina graphics package as much as the next modified German car nerd, but this might just be overkill. Lose the sunstrip on the windscreen at least, we reckon.

The rest of this project is rather cool though and follows on from Manhart’s take on the Lancia Delta Integrale and E30 BMW M3. Under the bonnet there’s Alpina’s A4 take on the 2.0-litre M10 engine, although with a few choice modern mods it’s now producing 197bhp and 159lb ft of torque.

The whole thing weighs around a tonne and Manhart says its classic cars team has “completely overhauled and refurbished” the powertrain. It has also fitted a new Manhart exhaust system and KW coilover suspension.

We’re told that before this particular car even arrived at Manhart it had been upgraded with the brakes from an E21 323i, but the genuine Alpina 16-inch wheels are newly fitted. There are 25mm spacers front and rear too in order to fill out the swollen arches, plus a new strut brace and a roll bar inside to stiffen up the body.

Elsewhere in the interior the Scheel sports seats have been restored and retrimmed, but aside from that everything has been left well alone. This is good news.

So, keen for the world to know you like Alpinas? Manhart currently has this very car listed for €149,000 (just under £130k). Best get in there quick…
