Renntech’s ‘Sledgehammer’ is a nat-asp, 7.5-litre widebody V12 Mercedes SEC

Only 12 are being built. Watch out, world

The Mercedes-Benz SEC was – is? – one of the world’s very finest luxury two-door coupes, from an era when Mercedes-Benz was knocking out hit after bulletproof, double-glazed, wood-trimmed hit.

The Renntech Sledgehammer is – definitely is – a reimagining of Mercedes-Benz’s solid gold hit that just happens to hit very, very hard. Because this limited edition, entirely overhauled C126 Benz packs a 7.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 producing many, many horsepowers.

Around 660, along with 650 torques, which makes this V12, according to its makers, “the only naturally aspirated version of its kind in active production today”. It’s the same M120 V12 that Pagani used – uses? – for the unkillable Zonda, and the same M120 V12 that exists in the “highly collectible” CLK GTR. Basically: it good.

Good and shouty, because Renntech plans on this tuned M120 V12 “delivering a signature V12 sound” courtesy of hand-built equal length headers, among other ‘high-grade’ components it plans on installing into those mighty banks.

The whole thing will be entirely re-engineered from the ground up, with a “unified chassis, drivetrain and aerodynamic package”, while inside it’ll be tailored to the 12 individuals who’ll get to own it. Oh, right – Renntech’s only building 12 of these Sledgehammers, each one bearing that monster widebody kit and your choice of forged wheel.

The first SEC V12 Widebody will be delivered in December 2027. We’d say ‘keep an eye out’, but you’ll probably hear it first.
