The Racing Bulls Formula One team will sport an enormous thumbs up on its front wing at the Las Vegas Grand Prix as part of its continuing apology to Lando Norris, sources have told TopGear.com.

Despite already saying sorry for making a thumbs-down gesture as Norris collected his winner’s trophy in Brazil, the team is keen to double down on its contrition by attaching a giant, carbon fibre thumbs up on the front of the RB VCARB 02 racing car.

Both Hadjar and Lawson will then be instructed to follow as closely as possible to the rear of Norris’s McLaren whenever he’s near enough.

“Look, we’re really very sorry about that whole thing,” a source close to the so-called ‘Thumbs Up Norris’ project said. “It doesn’t reflect what we believe in as a racing team.

“We believe in showing respect to every driver, so we’re going to show just how much we respect Lando Norris by sticking a giant thumb – pointing upwards! – on both of our cars’ front wings and tailgating him whenever he passes.

“That way, whenever he looks into his mirrors, he’ll be overcome with positive reinforcement from a friendly gesture.

“Yes, we’ve very much thought about the optics if they misjudge the slipstream and accidentally rear-end him. Let’s just… not,” the source added.
